Zimbabwe Fashion Week is the country’s premier fashion event, held across six days each October at Hyatt Regency Harare. The event positions itself as a pan-African showcase rather than a purely local platform, with designers from across the continent participating alongside Zimbabwean labels and independent makers. Runway shows, styling masterclasses, retail exhibitions and cultural heritage displays run in parallel, making it a broad industry and cultural event as much as a traditional fashion week.
What the event covers
The main runway shows take place on evenings from Thursday through Saturday, with designers presenting ready-to-wear and conceptual collections to invited guests, buyers and press. Daytime programming is more accessible to the general public and includes panel discussions on African fashion entrepreneurship, workshops on textile design and sustainable fashion, and a trade exhibition where designers sell directly.
A cultural heritage strand runs throughout the week, exploring the relationship between Zimbabwean textile traditions — including hand-woven fabrics and beadwork — and contemporary fashion design. This element has grown in prominence over recent editions and reflects a broader trend across African fashion weeks of grounding contemporary work in local craft heritage.
Practical information
Runway show tickets and full event passes are available through the Zimbabwe Fashion Week website (zimbabwefashionweek.com). Trade exhibition and daytime workshop access is typically available at lower price points than evening runway events. The Hyatt Regency Harare sits on Samora Machel Avenue in central Harare and is accessible by taxi or ride-hailing app from anywhere in the city.
October is one of Harare’s hotter months, with daytime temperatures around 30-33°C ahead of the first rains. Evening runway events at the hotel are air-conditioned, but getting around the city during the day calls for light, breathable clothing. Smart-casual dress is appropriate for daytime events; evening shows lean more formal.
If you are in Harare for fashion week, the city’s growing restaurant scene and the National Gallery of Zimbabwe are both worth time. Our Zimbabwe budget guide covers cost expectations for accommodation, food and transport across Harare.
