Victoria Falls is a compact tourist town and its cafe scene reflects that. Venues cluster around the falls entrance road, the main hotel strip and a handful of spots with gorge views. The range runs from simple snack stops near the local market to the famous cliff-edge terrace at Lookout Cafe. Prices are in USD throughout and sit above Harare or Bulawayo levels, but the settings compensate.

Lookout Cafe

Lookout Cafe sits on the cliff edge above Batoka Gorge, giving direct views down into the canyon where the Zambezi exits below the falls. The setting is the main draw: you can have a coffee or a burger while watching white-water rafters on the rapids 75 metres below.

The menu covers breakfast from around 7am, sandwiches and salads for lunch (USD 8-15 per dish), and burgers and grills through the afternoon and evening. Coffee runs USD 3-5. The views are at their best in the late afternoon when the light hits the gorge walls, and at sunset when the canyon fills with warm colour. Daytime lunch is usually walk-in; reservations are recommended for dinner seats on the prime terrace.

Lookout Cafe is located just off the main falls road, a short drive or 20-minute walk from the falls entrance. It is one of the few spots in Victoria Falls that justifies a visit on its own merits beyond the food and drink.

Victoria Falls Hotel Terrace

The Victoria Falls Hotel, built in 1904, has the most historically significant setting of any cafe stop in Zimbabwe. The wide veranda terrace looks over formal colonial gardens towards the spray cloud rising from the falls, with the Victoria Falls Bridge visible at the far end of the avenue of palms.

Afternoon tea is served from around 3pm and includes finger sandwiches, scones and pastries for approximately USD 20-25 per person as of 2026. The hotel is open to non-residents for terrace drinks and afternoon tea without requiring a table reservation for tea service. Coffee and light snacks are available throughout the day from the terrace bar.

It is the most formal cafe experience in Victoria Falls and suits an indulgent afternoon stop, particularly for first-time visitors who want to absorb the colonial-era setting and the garden views of the falls spray.

Ilala Lodge Terrace

Ilala Lodge is the closest hotel to the falls entrance and its terrace is a popular spot for pre-falls morning coffees and post-visit lunches. The casual terrace serves espresso-based drinks from USD 3-5 and a lunch menu with sandwiches, wraps and burgers from USD 10-15. The ambiance is a step below the Victoria Falls Hotel in grandeur but much more relaxed and practical for a working meal.

It works particularly well as a stop before entering the national park in the morning, when a coffee and light breakfast before the spray-forest walk is exactly what is needed.

Shearwater Explorers Village Cafe

Shearwater is the dominant activity operator in Victoria Falls, and their Explorers Village complex on Parkway Drive has a cafe-bar area serving coffee, cold drinks and snacks throughout the day. It is primarily a booking hub for rafting, bungee jumping, helicopter flights and other activities, but the shaded seating area is comfortable and reasonably priced by Victoria Falls standards.

Coffee runs USD 3-4; a club sandwich or toasted wrap is around USD 7-10. It works as a practical base if you are booking multiple activities and want a coffee and a snack while waiting for confirmations or transfers to depart. The bar also serves cold beers and soft drinks for post-activity recovery.

Town Centre Options

The town centre along Adam Stander Drive and near the craft market has several informal cafes and local eating spots where a meal with a cold drink costs USD 5-8. These cater primarily to local workers and budget backpackers and are noticeably cheaper than the hotel and lodge venues. Service is less polished but the food is straightforward and filling.

The Wimpy on Livingstone Way is the closest thing to a quick-service coffee chain in Victoria Falls and serves consistent espresso-based drinks from USD 2-3 alongside the standard fast-food menu. It is useful as a reliable early-morning breakfast stop before a full-day activity or a border crossing.

Practical Notes

All cafes in Victoria Falls price and transact in USD. Credit cards are accepted at Lookout Cafe and major hotel venues; town-centre spots often prefer cash. Service can be slow during peak season from July to August when tour groups move through the town simultaneously. Allow extra time if you have a transfer or activity departure within an hour of sitting down. Most venues near the falls entrance see a rush from 9am to 11am when morning tours arrive, and again from 3pm to 5pm as afternoon groups return.
