Victoria Falls town is compact enough that most visitors spend their time on foot, but transport logistics matter from the moment you land. Airport transfers, day trip logistics, and border crossings all require a bit of planning — here is what to know.
Getting to and from Victoria Falls Airport
Victoria Falls Airport (VFA) sits 18 km south-east of town. The drive along the A8 highway takes approximately 20 minutes in normal conditions.

Walking to the falls: The path runs through light mopane bush. During daylight it is used by dozens of visitors daily and is generally safe. Baboons are common along the route and are bold — keep food in your bag and do not approach them. At night, take a taxi.
Walking to Rainforest Road: The main viewpoint area along the lip of the falls is accessed through the national park gate (approximately USD 30 per person entry fee for non-residents as of 2026). Most visitors walk from gate to gate along the gorge — allow 1–2 hours to cover all viewpoints.
Taxis Within Town
Taxis are the standard way to move around if you do not want to walk. You will find them:

Opening hours: The border post on the Zimbabwean side is open 6am–10pm daily.
Crossing procedure: Zimbabwe exit tax is included in most visa fees. On the Zambian side, visas are issued on arrival. Plenty of tour operators run day trips from the Zimbabwean side to visit Livingstone Island (where Livingstone first saw the falls) and the Zambian viewpoints, which give a different — and arguably more dramatic — perspective on the falls face. Getting to Botswana (Kasane / Chobe)
The Kazungula border crossing connects Zimbabwe (via Zambia) to Botswana, giving access to Kasane and Chobe National Park. The common route:
- Victoria Falls town → Victoria Falls Bridge → Livingstone, Zambia (11 km)
- Livingstone → Kazungula border crossing (65 km, roughly 1 hour)
- Kasane, Botswana — the town sits a few kilometres from the crossing
